Liberia has been plagued by two decades of civil war and political instability. The current civil war has intensified displacing hundreds of thousands of people from their homes. The population of Monrovia has more than doubled as a result of rebels coming into Monrovia and blocking access to the main port. This has resulted in a shortage of food for those people living in Monrovia. People are congregating in UN and Embassy compounds, churches, schools and the main sports stadium.

Our Response

In response to this need New Life World Aid in partnership with GAiN Canada, GAiN Germany, Grass Roots Liberia and local churches implemented phase 1 of a feeding program this summer where 144,467 hot meals were served utilizing local churches as feeding centers to the displaced people of Liberia — 63% of the people served were under the age of 15. The funds for this program were provided by donors in Canada and the United States. The provision of this food has directly impacted the lives of many people in Monrovia.
